It was the year the Royal Family first appeared on our TV screens, smoking cigarettes, watching the tele and making cups of tea, while Jim broke wind. We also wanted to know 'Who Killed Kenny?' with South Park, Billie Piper started her musical career and we welcomed the Eurovision Song Contest to Birmingham.

It was also the year work began on the building of the Millennium Dome, Tony Blair became Prime Minister and J. K. Rowling's novel Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was released.

It was the year that a new Irish boy band were formed and managed by Louis Walsh. Shane, Mark, Nicky, Kian, and Brian were best known as Westlife. Elton John became a Sir, George Michael was arrested for that toilet incident and we said goodbye to Frank Sinatra and Tammy Wynette.

A colony of ants living on a small island in the middle of a creek was the biggest movie of the year, A Bug's Life made over £28 million. Other big movies included Dr Dolittle, Saving Private Ryan and Armageddon.

Ant & Dec were live in our living rooms for a Saturday morning with SMTV. We were calling a friend with the start of Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Bob was able to Fix it and Bella, Milo, Fizz, Jake, Doodles, Izzles, Max were a big hit with the kids as The Tweenies. It was also the year we saw the end to The Cook Report, Birds of a Feather, Father Ted and Telly Addicts
